What Are Rigid-Flex PCBs?

Hybrid circuit boards combining the best of both worlds: Rigid sections for component support and Flexible sections for dynamic folding.

  • Dynamic Flexibility: Maintains constant bend angles during installation and operation.
  • Space Efficiency: Enhanced durability in space-constrained, high-density environments.
  • Integrated Design: Eliminates connectors and cables, reducing assembly weight.

Topfast specializes in high-quality rigid-flex PCBs, offering expert engineering support to optimize your design for manufacturability (DFM).

Why Choose Rigid-Flex PCBs

Topfast delivers high-reliability rigid-flex solutions designed to maximize performance
and durability in even the most compact electronic assemblies.

Space Saving

Up to 60% weight and space reduction compared to traditional wire bundles and connectors.

01

Design Flexibility

Unlimited 3D packaging options. Ability to bend, fold, and twist into complex geometries.

02

High Reliability

Fewer interconnects and solder joints mean significantly lower risk of connection failure.

03

Thermal Durability

Exceptional thermal stability to withstand temperature ranges from -40°C to +300°C.

04

Rigid-Flexible PCB Materials

Conductors

Rolled Annealed (RA) Copper
Used in flexible circuits requiring repeated bending. Offers superior ductility and reduced risk of micro-cracking.
Electro-Deposited (ED) Copper
Preferred for rigid sections and static flex zones. Provides high conductivity and fine trace definition.

Adhesives & Bonding

Epoxy & Acrylic
High peel strength and thermal stability (Tg 135-200 °C). Commonly used for rigid-flex bonding interfaces.
Adhesiveless Base Material
Polyimide cast directly onto copper. Improves flexibility, reduces Z-axis expansion, and enhances thermal reliability.
Pre-preg
Dielectric bonding sheet for multilayer lamination in rigid areas, tailored by resin system properties.

Insulators / Dielectrics

FR-4 (High Tg)
Standard rigid core for mechanical support and stable routing platform (Tg 135 to 170 °C).
Polyimide (PI)
The backbone of flex sections. High-temperature resistance (Tg >250 °C) and superior bend endurance.
Polyester (PET)
Lower-cost alternative for basic flex assemblies with moderate thermal stability (~120 to 150 °C).

Frequently Asked Questions

What certifications do your PCB factories have? +

All of our products are IPC rated with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, CE, and ROHS certificates. Our products are widely used in communication, medical equipment, industrial control, power supply, consumer electronics, aerospace, and automotive industries.

How many layers can your rigid-flex boards do? +

Rigid zone: 4-20 layers (up to 30 layers), Flexible zone: 1-8 layers. We can also do 6-12 layers of rigid-flex combination. Designs over 16 layers require additional yield assessment (every additional 5 layers decreases yield by 8-12%).

Can you copy boards and provide batch pricing? +

We can copy boards but cannot evaluate batch quantities or pricing immediately. Final pricing depends on production process, component brands/models, and production quantity.

How does rigid-flex PCB quoting work? +

Our pricing is transparent with no hidden fees. Quotes can be made in as little as 10 minutes, depending on board complexity.

Do you charge for shipping? How is it calculated? +

We calculate shipping based on destination address/zip code and product weight. Customers can request shipping quotes before finalizing orders through our logistics partners.
