Cuando se conecta en un circuito, una resistencia suele tener un valor de resistencia fijo con dos patillas que restringen el flujo de corriente en su rama conectada. Las resistencias con valores de resistencia inalterables se denominan <strong>resistencias fijas<\/strong>mientras que los de resistencia regulable se denominan <strong>potenci\u00f3metros<\/strong> or <strong>resistencias variables<\/strong>. Una resistencia ideal es lineal, lo que significa que la corriente instant\u00e1nea es directamente proporcional a la tensi\u00f3n instant\u00e1nea aplicada. A key characteristic of resistors is their ability to convert electrical energy into heat, making them energy-dissipating components.
